The Margarita is a tequila based cocktail consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice. For decades, the Margarita has outsold all other cocktails in the USA. This is probably because it is the only cocktail which is so tightly tied to an international cuisine (Mexican) that it becomes the defacto cocktail to order in those restaurants. It is common to serve it with a salted rim.

Basic Recipe

  • 2 ounces Tequila
  • 1 ounce Cointreau
  • 3/4 ounce Lime Juice

Shake with ice. Strain into cocktail glass, or an ice filled rocks glass, or an ice filled Margarita glass. Some people like to add an additional 1/4 ounce of simple syrup to this recipe.
