According to Robert:

A friend of mine opened up distillery (Pacific Distillery) here in Washington State, where he makes both gin (Voyager) and absinthe (Pacific). I felt compelled to work up a drink for him which would use both of these products in an approachable fashion, so I came up with the following. I would have called it the “Voyager” cocktail (since that is the name of his gin), but I’d already used that name already. Since the label boasted a proud clipper ship, I figured that would make a great name too.
